State DHS seeks foster parents in Calhoun

n Training sessions will be held

June 14 and 21.

From staff reports

The Mississippi Department of Human Services is working to recruit eligible families as foster placements for children in DHS custody.

There are 598 children in DHS custody in Northeast Mississippi, including 17 from Calhoun County.

"These children need stable, dedicated adults to care for them and work with our agency to return them to their homes," said Natalie Bryant, a social worker with DHS Family and Children's Services.

"While our agency makes every effort to place children as near to their home as possible, this has become increasingly more difficult."

More and more children are entering the foster care system, but Calhoun County has only 2 licensed resource homes, Bryant said.

People interested in being foster parents can attend training sessions at the Jesse Yancy Memorial Library in Bruce on June 14 and 21. Sessions both days run 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

For more information, call Bryant at 412-3183.
